Vision & Goals

A key component of the Girls on the Run vision is to provide quality and life-changing programming and experiences for the girls, as well as to provide quality and life-changing experiences to the women involved in the delivery and development of the program.

Our goal is to empower all girls to:

• Have a strong sense of identity

• Give and receive support from a group

• Stand up for themselves in a healthy manner

• Have a healthy body image

• Understand their importance in the community

• Gain a sense of achievement from completing a 5K run

We are also impacting the lives of our women coaches by giving them an opportunity to:

• Change the lives of the girls we serve

• Mentor girls to prepare them for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living

• Teach lessons designed to enhance the social, mental, physical, and emotional health of pre-teen girls

With the explosion of childhood obesity, along with escalating occurence of bullying and increasing peer pressure, we believe that EVERY adolescent girl can benefit from our proven curriculum by learning skills and tools to make healthy decisions, form positive self-images, and stand up for themselves. As a result, GOTR NOVA is open to (and encouraged for) all girls in grades 3-8 who want to participate, and we currently have programs in more than 200 schools across almost every county and city in Northern Virginia.
