Girls on the Run and Girls on Track programs are offered twice a year in the fall and spring. Fall programs begin 1-2 weeks following the start of school and conclude in early December. Spring programs begin in early March and conclude in mid-late May (before Memorial Day). Participants meet twice a week before or after school. The program does not meet on days that public schools are not in session or on early release days. The sessions are approximately 60-75 minutes long.
A parent/guardian must complete the registration form for each girl. Before you begin, review the list of sites that offer Girls on the Run and Girls on Track programs. Please note that practice sessions are held twice a week over the 10-week curriculum, and it is important for girls to attend all practice sessions.
Registration is simple:
Parents can register their daughters for Girls on the Run, or Girls on Track, from September 18 through September 25 by following the link to the online registration system found at the Girls on the Run NOVA web site.
Step 1: Online registration for the Fall program opens on September 18, 2010. GOTR NOVA will post a link to online registration on the Home Page of the GOTR NOVA web site. Open registration closes on September 25.
Step 2: Once on the registration page, parents will be asked to select the program site (usually a school) they want to join, a session day and time if more than one Girls on the Run program is offered at the school, as well as credit card information for payment.
Step 3:Once you’ve completed the registration process, you will receive an email confirming your registration application.
Step 4: After open registration closes on September 25, all registered participants will receive emails notifying them of their status.
• Participants whose schools are oversubscribed (20+ girls per program) will be automatically entered into a random lottery. Once the lottery is completed, parents will be notified whether their daughter has been added to the program, or not.
• Participants whose school programs have not been over-subscribed will receive a confirmation email confirming their daughter’s participation in the program.
Step 5: September 26-October 1 is the Late Registration period. For programs that are not filled (<20 girls), registration will remain open with a $25 late registration fee. For programs where registration went over capacity and entered a lottery, this week represents an add/drop period—where if a girl drops from that program, all girls who originally registered will be entered into a second random lottery to fill that slot.
Girls the Run of Northern Virginia will refund 50% of the registration fee if requested in writing prior to the 4th lesson of a Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia program. No refunds will be issued for any terminations after the 4th lesson except in the event that an unforeseen illness or health issue arises after the 4th lesson. Such instances will be handled on a case-by-case basis by the Girls on the Run Executive Director, and discussion and review will be held prior to refunding 50% of the registration fee. If a site is canceled due to insufficient registration or other circumstances deemed appropriate by the Executive Director, the full registration fee will be refunded.
New Balance, one of our corporate sponsors, provides free running shoes to those whose financial situations make buying appropriate shoes difficult. If a girl participating in the program needs a pair of running shoes, please contact the Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia, or the GOTR coach at your location.
Health history forms, liability and photo waivers must be completed online in order to register for the program.
We are happy to answer your questions about program registration. In order to make it easier to connect you with the program coordinator for your school, direct your inquiries to either coordinators for programs operating at Fairfax County Public Schools, or coordinators for programs operating at public schools in other jurisdictions and private schools.
If you are contacting us about program fees or refunds please first check our web site, and contact the coordinator for your jurisdiction if you need further clarification. Your program coordinator can also assist you with questions about financial aid to cover program fees or running shoes. No participant is ever turned away for financial reasons.
If you need help with online registration, including the use of a computer to complete the program registration form, please contact your school's main office, PTA representative, or Girls on the Run coach for assistance.
