GOTR NOVA’s First-Ever Trivia Night Fundraiser

Looking through the door at Commonwealth Brewing Company to see a Girls on the Run sign.

Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia hosted its first-ever Trivia Night fundraiser at Commonwealth Brewing Company in Fairfax on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

Nearly 100 individuals came together in support of GOTR NOVA and in celebration of International Women’s Day. Trivia questions highlighted the achievements of women and girls covering Sports, Science, Movies/TV, History, and Music with a wagered final round and a tiebreaker.

The event raised $13,000 for future GOTR programming and scholarships! This will help

  • provide coach training to new coaches (GOTR Coach training and CPR certification)

  • provide coaches with the supplies they need to fully deliver the curriculum

  • provide program scholarships to those requesting financial assistance

  • with much, much more!

While GOTR NOVA brought the creativity when it came to the questions…

What was your favorite part of Trivia Night?

Ellesse: I loved being able to spend time with my teammates outside of the daily work routine. It was also great to take all of our random knowledge and use it for something productive! All of listening to Taylor Swift in the car paid off.

Kristen: Defintiely connecting with colleagues in person in a fun way. We started doing trivia nights together virtually during COVID, so being able to connect in person this way was such a treat.

Allison: Getting to spend time with some of my favorite colleagues and being in awe of our collective trivia powers!

Stephanie: Getting to spend time outside of work with my phenomenal colleagues – and learning that they have these deep pockets of knowledge in the most random things.

How did the event meet your expectations?

Stephanie: Great energy, a fun activity, and a good cause.

Ellesse: The event actually exceeded my expectations! I loved how organized everything was and how everything was set up. I could definitely tell that a lot of thought went into every detail.

Allison: [I] agree with Stephanie: Great energy, a fun activity, and a good cause.

Kristen: This trivia night was so well organized and executed! We all facilitate meetings and events on a regular basis and were impressed by how well GOTR coordinated everything. It did not seem like a one-off event at all but more like you all run a trivia night every week! The questions were a perfect mix of easy to challenging and highlighted some amazing women. As a participant, I never had a question on where to go or how to navigate the evening.

How did you feel leaving the event?

Allison: Happy – I loved having a night out with my colleagues outside of work.

Ellesse: I left feeling energized and excited! It was great to do something different, support a good cause, and have fun.

Stephanie: Happy to have spent a nice evening out – with some great people.

Kristen: Even as a pseudo introvert, I left the evening feeling so happy and re-energized. It was a lovely to connect with my colleagues and with the community in such a fun way.
